Although not everyone likes the taste of gin by itself, gin and vodka are the most mixable of spirits and many of the recipes which call for vodka may be enriched by instead using gin. This substitutability has led to the gin screwdriver and several other cross-over drinks.

The most popular gin drink is undoubtedly the martini and its variations, followed by the beloved gin and tonic. Gin is such a smooth alcohol that the quality of the ingredients used with it are often more important than the quality of the gin itself.
