College Version
By Phred Johnston

In Collage (12 years ago!) we mixed one that was like this, but it worked better: Fill 32oz glass (cup) with ice add: 2 ounces Vodka 2 ounces Gin 2 ounces Rum (Light) 2-4 ounces Sweet & Sour Mix Cola (Classic Coke) to top of glass We'd sip on one of these for a whole football game.

3/5

By spif@pulley.org

The recipe should call for a 1/2 oz of each liquor, and (as another reader mentioned), a 1/2 oz of triple sec. near fill sour, and splash of cola. if made the way it is listed here it would taste really bad (not to mention very expensive since 8 oz of liquor would not be served at a bar in a single drink).

Must be better ways to get drunk

Tastes terrible. Must be missing something.

Long Island Ice Tea

Excellant but add 1 ounce of triple sec

This is not the way to make a Long Island Iced Tea

Long Island Iced Teas are strong drinks, but not that strong! (otherwise, they'd cost around $20 some odd dollars at the bar) The drink should contain about a 1/2 an ounce of vodka, rum, gin and triple sec (each), and more than a dash of sour mix and cola. Who the hell is listing these drinks on this site? Even the most dim-witted bartender knows how to make a fairly decent one of these!

HB315
By HB315@aol.com

Some of the others are right. This is a very good drink. However it is best made with 1/2 oz. of all the liquors. It should also contain a 1/2 oz. of triple sec. It will give it a better taste. If this drink is made correct, it will taste like ice tea with a serious kick. Enjoy it. I have.

The Perfect Drink

When made properly, this is the best drink.

Perfect Blend
By OleGoalie

This drink, if made properly, can have the smooth drinking taste of a rum and coke, with the effectiveness of straight shots. I was always a fan of the ease of remembering this drink. Just think - all your clear alcohol. The amount of cola provided can be regulated by the drinker's tolerance.

The Butt-Kicker
By Katie

In all honesty... 2 ounces is just a shot! I am sitting here right now with a Grateful Dead (Essentially a fruity Long Island) made with a shot each of rum, vodka, tequila, triple sec and gin, 2 shots of sour mix a splash of chambord and a splash of blue curacou. And I know many bars in the greater New York area that will (and have) sold this exact drink to me for $8-12... And believe me its worth it! This drink will knock you on your butt without the horrible taste booze can sometimes have! The bartender's recipe could use some Triple Sec but the proportions are right, for a 16oz glass anyway. Enjoy!

I had this drink for the first time at college at my favorite bar and I fell in love. It was a bit hard to get back to the apartment but it was well worth it!! I absolutely love this drink

Long Island Iced Tea Revised
By DrinkStreet Professional

Many apologies. The drink we had originally listed was indeed too strong. While we were starting this site we had a number of people entering drinks, and a mistake was made. Our apologies. To rectify this, we spent a very fun evening trying out several different recipes, and evetually determined that about half a shot of alcohol is just about perfect. Try it and see for yourself!

MY FAVORITE

This is the perfect drink to starting the night off right. I always have one of these first and although it may be expensive it is worth it, and as everyone else is going back for a second round you'll still be enjoying your L.I. Iced Tea. Drink Up and Enjoy!

i don't know who the hell listed the recipes on this site. most of them are wrong or atleast the amounts of liquors are incorrect. but as a bartender, i think long island icedtea sucks a fat one.. who would possible drink that crap?

0/5
Too Sweet!

Making the drink by this recipe it tastes like lemon pucker or something! Use 1/2 of each liquor (except Triple Sec, use 1 oz), 2 oz of sweet & sour mix and a heavy splash of cola. I garnish with an orange and lemon twist. Great summertime drink!!!

Caitlin

I love this drink. the first time I had this drink i was worsted as it was and this drink didn't help. i was at my sorority dance and i passed out at it after that drink i love it.

Guaranteed Panty Drop?

Hey A-hole that wrote the above comment! I happen to enjoy a fine Long Island upon many occasions and would like to announce to the readers that this is NOT a "guaranteed panty drop" as you so eloquently put it. You are a sad sad man.

Out For The Count
By Edgar "Eternal-E" Ochoa

This is the drink that finishes the night. After a long night at a club/party drinking coronas and other types of drinks.. if your still not over the top have a long island Iced tea. this is the final drink when they say last call for alcohol because its good. and will get you twisted for the rest of the night. a good drink to put you out for the count.

A Game
By Bernard

Here's an idea for people with some balls (ladies, this is figurative speach here, ok?) 1. Drink a Long Island Iced Tea 2. Drink another Long Island Iced Tea 3. And another 4. Annnnd one more 5. Do you remember how many you drank? 6. Wicked, have another! 7. See how many you can drink and still be able to count to three Good times, good times.

Supper happy fun drink!
By Katya_X

Oh, hell, yeah. This is my signature drink. If you're a light weight, tho', make sure you've eaten at least an hour before drinking. And while you drink, have some glasses of water handy. Unless you're planning on getting 100% f--ed up, drink slowly and don't try to opperate heavy machinery, okay?

You amateurs
By Chris P. Bacon

At a bar here in Iowa City, they're only $3 a pop on certain nights, and in pint glasses, we're looking at easily 3 shots per drink. I can drink 7 of them in 3 hours at the bar. Sack up and drink the way you were made to drink, and if you're a lady, don't even try to keep up. We professionals are out of your league.

If you really want a great L.I.I.T. go to Pensacola Beach, FL. Visit a restaurant/club called Flounders. It's called a Diesel Fuel and comes in a quart mason jar. They also sale huggers that fit the jar. They WILL be the best you have ever had and you keep the glass!

ive given it up
By Kemomo

it used to be my favorite, since it got me plastered sooo fast.. but after ordering 2 every friday night for months, i began to be able to taste the alcohol a lot more, and now i think my liver is trying to get me to quit. It now tastes like ass since the bars im going to probably use this recipe rather than the 1/2 ounce, and ive stuck to things that taste nice ever since.

its my poison!
By Kerry

once again, i had it for the first time in college. watch out, they go down way to nicley! but they are so good, they just come back to kick you when all the liquor kicks in, but it is well worth it! you just have to have someone who can make them good, otherwise it is just not the same! great times though!

One of my favorites

I first had this drink at On the border then i had another one the same night at the bowling alley and since then I have been hooked. this is the perfect drink to just loosen up to and it taste great too.

L I Tea is the best
By Chas

I had 2 bad expieriences with JD and Canadian club. So I had to find a drink that I could enjoy. One night at a local bar. I ordered one, It was the best thing I had. I know the Bartender there, so I don't pay 7.00 for a large one I only pay 4.00 Thanks Trix. Eversince then I was hooked. Even when I went to Vegas in April. I drank mainly at Kahunaville in Treasure Island. They put on a show while making your drink. It was cool and was awesome after a few. In Vegas they were good but not as good as back home. But I was in Vegas, so I had more than I should. I think, or should I say I remember having 4 in about 3 hours and then trying to walk the strip at 5AM back to the other casino I was staying at. One last thing. The drink "LITea" go down like Power Windows.

Lady Light Weight?

To the guy who said that ladies can't keep up to male drinkers. I'd like to say I can down a good amount of these and not be sh*tfaced. The first time I had one I had about 8 more in the night.... and was fine to walk home and not puke. I might be a woman but I can hold my alcohol, just because you are male doesn't mean you can automatically outdrink a female.

4/5
WindsorBartender

This is a great drink...but I have the recipie for the ultimate "knock you on your ass" drink. It's calle a "Double Mudd". Think 4 shots of rum, one shot of gin, one shot of tequilla, and one shot of Blue Caracco. Top with lemon sour mix and a splash of Coke. The sell this drink i my city for 8 bucks...Canadian! Don't have more than 3 if you wanna see who you'r taking home!

Excellent Drink
By dimie

This being my favorite of all drinks..Just wanted to give a suggestion add an ounce of the 4 whites with no triple sec and 1/2 an ounce of bitter lemon with a dash of coke...It does not get any better and may be a little stronger..depending on your liking.

3/5
Agree w/Jason

DIESEL FUEL!!! Everytime I go home to Pensacola, I have to go to Flounder's and order one. I have never tasted a L.I.I.T. like it before!

Variation with Cranberry/Grapefruit
By Maleko

I love the LIT. And I mean lit!! A good way to make one drink go a long way. There are variations that I would like to recommend. Instead of Cola, splash Cranberry and or grapefruit for a refreshing "lemonade" taste... (anyone know what thats called.. I forgot) or go with Melon and it will glow in black light. That way it's called a Chernobyl. (See Ivan at the Wave Waikiki for the best ever) It's called a Chernobyl not because it glows but because it will f u up.

Texas Tea
By AdamOn6thStreet

Now I love a Long Island as much as the next guy, but here is a little variation on a theme. Basically you are going to make your usual Long Island Tea, but leave out the Tequila and Gin and use equal parts of Vodka, Rum, and a good Blended whiskey. I prefer VO if Im going cheaper or Crown if I have cash. Then just add a spalsh of Grenadine and you're set. In fact, I usually dont like Tequila in any LIIT. Enjoy!

a question

I've never had it, but would like to. It's just that I usually don't stay at a bar long enough to down it slowly, at least I don't think so. So, how much time should I take to drink it and not be completely wasted right away?

5/5
YUM
By Kourt

Whenever I go to the bar I drink a TON of these... at first it was hard getting used to the fact that i was about to fall over after 2... Now I drink about 13 of them and can still Dance...LOL thank goodness that's only twice a month though.... but This is by far the best drink i've EVER had.... well aside from midori sours!!!!!!!

Who doesn't love this drink.

I judge restaraunts on how well they make this drink. I have walked out of bars that couldn't make this drink. Who doesn't love this drink?

Give me a break.
By Funny yet weird

If you want to sit and socially drink, nursing a pretty little highball glass, and pretend to be drinking, fine. But if you're going to drink, drink with a purpose, to get shitfaced, so I suggest you just grab some shot glasses and some Southern Comfort, slam down about 10 shots and see how you feel. Fruity drinks are just a waste of time, money and fruit.

LIITs are good. And yeah sometimes (ok 99% of the time) I drink just to get shatty, but it's nice to have a good tasting drink sometimes, especially one that still has some balls to it.

One too many ingredient!
By Stoney

You've got to leave out the tequila! The drink should be strong, but have a mild taste. Tequila ends up being the only thing you taste... For a real Long Island, don't use it!

Best LIIT in the Northwest
By Rod

Go to the Log Cabin Inn on the McKenzie Hwy just east of Springfield, OR about 45 miles. I have made it a career of searching for the best LLIT and after many puckered faces finally found a place that does it right. I have tried making these myself and have had a problem with the drink being on the sour side. I use "sweet and sour" mix and thought about just leaving it out all together. Maybe I am using the cheap brands of booze, I dunno. Any suggestions on getting the sweeter less sour taste out of this drink?

this recipe is all wrong, and leave out the sour mix and it should taste better. remember, it's the triple sec and the cola that give it the taste.

And btw this drink is one of my favorites, I usually prefer a little Irish myself, but this drink kicks ass without tasting horrible. This is definitely a drink for those who don't like the taste of straight up alcohol.

****** YOU GOTTA TRY THIS *****
By Barb Moran

Okay, first off, it should be 1/2 ounces not 3/4. Next, Forget the LI Tea and try the LA version: LA TEA is made the same way except replace the triple sec with Midori melon and the cola with sprite. YOu'll love it! P.S. I never use the sweet & sour- you're "supposed to"- but I find it better without! Less heartburn! CHEERS...

3/5
Ouch!

The perfect drink if you just want to get totally loaded, worship the porcelein God, and not remember your name.

im a big fan of this drink. i love going to this bar called cactus canyon and making myself at home untill they say last call. but my proplem is i cant always make it there. i want to learn how to make it at home but need a good recipe and all this is confussing me. i need a great tasting recipe.

5/5
Ohh, Give me some Tea...

The Best cocktail that would ever be conjured up is the Long Island. I must admit, at first i was skeptical of it. I decided to give it a try and i was blown away. Not only will it get you tipsy quick, it goes down soo smooth, and will last the whole night. It's my drink of choice at the bar. Go ahead and give it a try. When mixed right, with topshelf liquors, it taste just like tea.

5/5
Drink Up!

Great drink, but must be made right. One slip up and its crap. If made properly its the greatest!

5/5
Iced Tea
By wish I could take credit for the recipe

To make along story short learned this from a 40 year plus bartender from long island and he said they just call it "Iced tea". That being said when made right it's strong but you can't tell it just tastes like tea. You start of by adding ice to your shaker and pouring in vodka gin rum tequilla. You can use either 1/2 or 3/4 really doesn't change the flavor much, but ALWAYS use a little less tequilla than other ingredients because that is the one that gives it that little off taste. Add a couple splashes of sour and shake. After shaking float triple sec. Strain into a fresh glass with rocks while adding coke simultaniously. Drink should have color of tea taste of tea and a slight forth. WARNING people have been drinking this drink wrong for a long time so they may like the way they have had it before. ALWAYS tell them that it will taste like "Iced Tea" and remember this is a show drink have fun with it. since this recipe i have become a fan of the "Iced Tea" after i retired this drink many years ago

Uhhh
By captainandcokebemydrink

Uh, I like drinking as much as the next guy, but I find it rather amusing that all talk about alcohol inevitably degrades to who has the highest tolerance. Who the hell cares how much it takes you to get drunk? Congratu-effing-lations- you can take 15 shots without dying. Enjoy the drink and the buzz it gives you.

5/5
hell yeah!!

this is an awesome drink. i work at a restraunt and drinks all around at the end of last order, this is the favorite. good stuff, no doubt about it. i cant wait until i myslef can go into a bar and order one of these...a good 5 years. but its a great drink for anyone who hasnt had one

5/5
I love this drink

Believe it or not, I take a tall glass, fill with ice and put 1 oz. each vodka, rum, gin, tequila, triple sec, add sweet & sour mix and a little Coke for the top, stir and enjoy. I've never made it any other way...strong but delicious.

Lemon juice and sugar
By Jasper

I have experimented a lot at home. Here is my preferred recipe for a fabulous drink. I agree with the person who said leave out the sweet and sour (most commercial brands taste too artficial - use real lemon juice and sugar instead). Lots of ice in glass 1 oz each rum, gin, vodka, tequila 1/4 oz triple sec 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice 2 teaspoons simple sugar syrup 2-3 oz Coke float

0/5
Another version

An ex-bartender friend of mine made one of these at a party, and he made it a little different. Tasted like unsweetened tea that had been sweetened (if ya know what I mean). 1/2 light rum, 1/2 dark rum, 1/2 vodka, 1/2 tequilla, spash of pepsi, splash of lemon juice. We didn't have any Gin or Triple Sec, but I liked it better than the version listed here. I made 3 more myself that night and people asked if it was lipton's. ;)

it getsa one because a Long Island Ice tea does NOT have Tequila init.... That is a Texas tea, and anyway the Tequila changes the tase to something only a dog would drink

I first tried this drink when i went to africa. It was one of their favourite cocktails and at only £1 i couldnt say no. I forgot that i had an addictive personality and found myself going back every 5 minutes for anouther. Surprisingly by the end of the night (or should i say morning) i could still walk. (perhaps i hadnt had enough). This drink is one of the reasons i am returning next year!
