take a regular tom collins and mix with your favorite schnapps and make it that flavored tom collin - ex. tom collins + strawberry schnapps = strawbery tom collins. which is a great drink
Like a Gin and Tonic with some flare
By Ryan
I used to drink gin and tonics, but once I had one of these, I don't know if I'll go back! They are almost the same, with a little extra flavor - would totally recommend it!

In the past I would use Tom Collins mix.
Making it the this way is much better.

Use Pink Lemonade Concentrate instead of lemon juice, 7up instead of club soda, and add grenadine and gin... FANTASTIC drink...

I've been bartending for about 5 years now and here's how I take an ordinary Tom Collins (any Gin) and give it a little twist. Instead of using regular gin like Tanq. or Bombay. Use Bombay Sapphire and skip the sugar and just use Sweet and Sour. You can shake the tits off it in your shaker before you add your club soda if you want, if not just sure gently but more than 5 times over your cracked ice and top it off w/ a little color by dropping a Marachino cherry, a slice of orange and also a lemon twist. What sells the drink people isn't just using decent gin, it the colors. People start seeing that around the bar they begin to be intreged and ask what it is. A great bartender is a versatile one. Do I charge a little more for a bombay tom collins verses a everyday TC? Sure I do but I think my customers think it's worth it. I'll make 2-4 for the same person on a good friday.

Grocery store mix?
Grocery store mix is for the unsophisticated!
That stuff has more poisons in it than the known liver toxin - alcohol!
If you're going to drink, do it the right way. Follow the above recipe :)
help?

I tried it at a place that used sloe gin in the stead of regular gin. Has anyone else done this?
Raspberry Tom Collins

Follow this recipe but add an ounce or two of raspberry gingerale...sweetens it up a bit and tastes very 'summery'.
Meh.
By Derek the Red
This is a good Collins recipe but honestly, the drink is way too weak and sweet for me. Not only do I prefer stronger drinks, the sugar in this stuff will make me nauseous long before the liquor will.
Kewl!
I a drink very similar to this for my dad it was made of the juice of this HUGE lemon...he finished all uv the bottles of its juice but, yeah this is gonna work too....Good drink people.
To a better way to enjoy..............

Sneaky Drink
By Militant Islam Hater
My first experience with the Tom Collins was at this old-line country club. I saw this crusty old gentleman order this great looking drink. Being from the youthful generation acustom to body shots, sex on the beach, and beer, this was a great adventure. The drink looked refreshing. I ordered one and the old guy smiled and said "you'll like it". I did, after my third one I was so friggin plastered I was almost embarrased. Those sneaky drinks taste so damn good and refreshing. No harsh alcohol taste.

TRY THIS WITH SPRITE!
it's basically the same as this recipe except you don't have to have extra fine sugar on hand..
it works awesome
Tom Collins
By Jack Bruce
First Tom Collins I ever had I will Never forget. The problem with a tom collins is drinking more than one. It's so dang SWEET. Club soda should Not work with gin but it does in this instance. You hear that name...."Tom Collins" and your mouth starts to water. Kind of like a Salty Dog although the dog falls down from "far too much salt". A good bartender Knows how to line the lip of the glass with just a touch. Why do people think more is better? Tom Collins. Ya, I can dig it.
Type of Gin makes the difference!
By Matthew Siegmann
This is my drink of choice... But I must say that once I had it with Hendrix, I've never been able to tolerate any other type of gin... that goes for strait gin too.
First drink that I don't do the sour face with....
By Dawn
I first tried a Tom Collins on vacation in South Padre. I thought it was pretty good. I went out of town last night and order a couple of them and they were so good!!! I think the Padre Tom Collins weren't made correctly.
They don't have the harsh bitter taste like heavy alcohol drinks. I'm trying to cut out my sugar intake and I've seen a couple of variations to using other things besides sugar. I'm pretty sure that the Bartender last night used sweet and sour. Any other suggestions?
Thanks
