I love this drink, and NO, I didn't start drinking it because I saw it on 'Sex in the City'!! For a sweeter (and more expensive drink) add Grand Marnier or Cointreau instead of Triple Sec. And hold on to your seat - they kick butt!!

I went to a neighbors party, and they gave me this drink. This was the first time I drank and i had about 5. Best first drink, I've ever had. That was the first time I ever got drunk. And it definitely won't be and hasn't been the last time seeing I've got a few years till I'm of legal age.
Can sometimes be a strong drink, but yet it's so sexy to sip on.

although your drink recipe got me nice and toasted, i asked the bartender at my local bar how she makes the ones i get from her. she uses 2 parts vodka, 1 part triple sec, 2 parts cranberry juice, and a LOT of Rose's lime juice. i don't know if this is your traditional cosmo, but i like it more than this recipe because it's a little sweeter.

Definitely better to substitute cointreau for triple sec and a dash of Rose's lime juice is a must! Also, for a nice touch for the ladies, rim your martini glass with Rose's and place into a Cosmopolitan sugar rimmer before pouring from your shaker (never stirred)

I had this drink in VA Beach by Karen at Captain George's, the best I've had. Being a bartender myself you look for the "mistake", but this 100% Cosmo and then some.

Old or young? Lush or rec drinker?
forget the recipes bartenders. If she's under 23 just make how you usually do and add 2oz of sugar. 23-35 use fruit vodka. Older than that she's probably a drinker so make it strong and pink. I know it's sexist but 99% just want a pink drink in a martini glass so don't worry how to make a "real" cosmo. I work in a college town and noboby makes em the same and it don't matter.

I had the orginal at a resturaunt and decided i wanted to make my own but instead of tripple sec my husband got segrum lime twist and cranberry rasberry juice. but it made it a little smoother and a little sweeter

I had it at the Henesssy Tavern in CA and had the bartender use Skyy Vodka. It was very good...also make sure to have your glass rim lined with lemon for a touch of bitter sweetness.

My friend and I had a couple cosmos in an Irish pub in New York and then walked around Times Square. WoW, that was fun. I love the feeling a cosmo gives you. It doesn't make you want to fall asleep like wine, or throw up like beer.

Where I come from that isn't a classy drink. Its vodka with some cranberry juice. make them strong. they'll kick your ass. also if you really want to get a good ass kicking try using pink lemonade instead of cranberry juice.

Best COSMO Recipe: Makes 1
3 parts Vodka
1 part Cointreau
1 part Frozen Cranberry Juice Concentrate
1 small slice of fresh Lime - squeezed
1/2 tsp Rose's Lime Juice
Put into shaker, add 3/4 cup ice cubes, shake well for 30 seconds, pour into small pitcher and put in the freezer for at least 30 minutes, pour into well chilled martini glass and serve. Garnish with slice of lime if desired, but not necessary.
This is by far the best COSMO recipe I have come across - thanks Jay!

Great recipe, but try this...Columbus Brewing Company makes theirs with pineapple infused vodka...soak cut up fresh pineapple in vodka for 1-2 weeks and use this in the recipe...you'll love it!

My girlfriend drinks cosmos and I tried one...I now have a 3 drink limit! Cosmos kick serious butt! I feel silly drinking a "girlie" looking pink drink--but just for the first one! After that, who cares? I like using Grey Goose or Vox and subbing Cointreau for the triple sec; other than that, my only other wish is that they would come up with a "manly" color for that first one! :-))

At Ocean Club in Scottsdale, they serve this drink with dry ice in the bottom of the glass, so the drink bubbles and smokes for a good 10 minutes while you are enjoying it. A nice way to imbibe and people/car watch while on OC's patio.

I LOVE cosmos... the best drink ever, especially with Absolute Citron vodka. Here's my recipe:
1 1/2 ounces Absolute Citron Vodka
1/2 ounce Triple Sec
1 splash Cranberry Juice
muddle fresh limes
small dash sugar
Shake with cracked ice; strain into chilled cocktail glass with sugared rim. Garnish with a lime.
Great Drink - Sweet and with a punch

I used 1 oz Rose's Cranberry Twist Mix instead of the 3/4 oz cranberry juice and substituted Rose's Sweetened Lime Juice for fresh lime juice. Just pour over ice and shake. It's sweet and pungent - the perfect drink.
Don't use lemon juice!
Kind of a sour drink overall. Made the mistake of using lemon juice instead of lime. Some might like that, but it really changed the taste to twangy! (is that a word or just in the south?) Stick close to the recipe for best results but if desperate, guess a little lemon will do.
The less-sweet cosmo
I never really minded substituting pink lemonade for lime juice. The classic recipe is just too sweet for me. Lemon juice or lemonade will take away some of the sweetness, but I would hardly call it sour, especially if you sub Grand Marnier for Triple Sec. Also, Grey Goose L'Orange or Absolut Citron is the best vodka to use. I guess it's just a matter of taste.
Garnish
I like to have my Cosmos garnished with a cherry. It pulls out some of the tartness from the lime juice and makes it a little easier to drink if you don't like lime juice a lot.
